Six U.S. servicemen lean together in unison against a long flagpole as the American flag rises above the rocky summit of Mount Suribachi. Their strained, bent postures vividly capture the physical toll and tight coordination required during the Battle of Iwo Jima, while the wind-filled flag stretches proudly into the broad, open sky. Against the bare, stark summit, the men and the sharply angled pole form an instantly recognizable and deeply historic scene.
Captured by Joe Rosenthal on February 23, 1945, the photograph immortalizes these service members pushing forward across the rough ground. Their heavy uniforms and the rugged, volcanic terrain stand out in powerful black-and-white contrast as they work together at the peak. With only the rocky ground beneath them and the open sky above, the scene carries the solemn human weight and enduring legacy of one of World War II's most iconic moments.

PRINTED FABRIC ONLY: For the Do-It-Yourselfers, our prints are also available as PRINTED FABRIC ONLY linen canvas fabric panels.
If you order your print as PRINTED FABRIC ONLY you will receive only the five pieces of canvas fabric, printed with the design of your choice and rolled up for shipping.
These fabric panels include a white border for attaching to stretcher bars, foam core or whatever mounting method you choose. This border can be trimmed upon request.
To achieve the best fit and finish at the lowest cost we do recommend that you order your print gallery wrapped and let us do the stretching and mounting for you, but the choice is ultimately up to you!
